Cardio Academy

ACHA, in collaboration with e-cardioimage and Medical Simulation Technologies, have founded ACHA Cardio Academy, with offices in Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Spain. ACHA Cardio Academy offers in-person and online courses, through an exclusive virtual platform. The courses are intended for Scientific Societies, Cardiology and Anesthesia Residencies, Cardiologists in general, Cardiac Imaging Specialists, Interventional Cardiologists, Anesthesiologists, Clinics, Hospitals, and Universities.

e-cardioimage is a platform used by a group of experts in Cardiac Imaging to provide high-quality distance education and walk through the teaching-learning process, providing practical information for day-to-day life, based on many years of research, study and experience.

Medical Simulation Technologies is a startup that develops and implements medical simulators to provide training for medical staff. MST was founded in 2016 by a team of medical specialists and engineers with academic training and passion for innovation. The company is made up of a multidisciplinary group of experts: programmers, hardware specialists and medical professionals.

In-person courses

IN-PERSON TRAINING: “TRANSESOPHAGEAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY WITH A HIGH FIDELITY SIMULATOR, THROUGH REAL-CASE PRACTICE”. The aim of this course is to provide core, in-depth information about ftransesophageal echocardiography and its clinical application. The course is delivered in 2 modules, and participants can choose to attend both or only Module 1.

Module 1

Introduction to TEE. Basic and intermediate-advanced training

Length
6 hours, distributed in two 3-hour-long periods.

Director
Dr Gustavo Avegliano, e-Cardioimage CEO and CO-founder.

Content

Part 1

  1. – Introduction to Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE).
  2. Preparation. Oral presentation.
  3. Indications and current applications. Oral presentation.
  4. The principles of probe movements. Working with the probe and correlating with the digital information for each movement.
  5. Step-by-step process for obtaining basic planes in a normal case.
  6. How to perform a correct 4C. Plane for assessing the aortic valve. Longitudinal planes at 60º, 90º and 120º. What should be assessed in each structure?
  7. Cava plane and visualization of the coronary sinus.
  8. How to assess ventricular function using TEE
  9. How should the aorta be assessed using TEE?
  10. Importance and tips for obtaining transgastric planes.
  11. How to focus on a structure and explore it in multiple spacial planes.
  12. Hands-on work with the Simulator, student by student. Probe manipulation, guided creation of planes, interpretation of normal images.
  13. Practice with a pathological case for group consideration.
  14. Assessment of each student’s skill in obtaining the most common planes and interpreting images.

Part 2

  1. 3D ETE and its forms of acquisition/display.
  2. Usefulness of TEE in Mitral Stenosis. Key points. Oral presentation.
  3. Real case of MS to assess the possibility of electrical cardioversion and define the susceptibility of performing percutaneous valvuloplasty or surgical treatment.
  4. Usefulness of TEE in mitral insufficiency. Quantification and mechanism. Oral presentation.
  5. Mitral valve anatomy assessed by 3D TEE.
  6. Three real cases of patients with mitral insufficiency to make a diagnosis. We will practice how to describe the images and how to write the report appropriately.
  7. Functional MI, MI due to prolapse, MI due to systolic anterior motion in a patient with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Interpretation of images and application for taking clinical conduct.
  8. What should I know to evaluate the post-mitral plastic TEE?
  9. TEE in valve prostheses. Assessment of a periprosthetic leak in view of percutaneous closure. How to locate it, how to quantify it? Tips to guide the procedure.
  10. Assessment of a real functional MI case in Dilated Cardiomyopathy in the simulator.

Module 2

Intermediate-advanced TEE: practice with pathological cases and assessment

Length
4 clock hours

Director
Dr Gustavo Avegliano, CEO and CO-founder of e-Cardioimage

Content

  1. Practice with pathological cases (6 cases for diagnosis, interpretation and technique application for decision making).
  2. Assessment of each student’s skill in obtaining the most common planes and interpreting images.
